Resist Evil. Do Good.

Resist Evil. Do Good.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." - Galations 6:9

Our motto is ‘Resist evil. Do good’ because a faithful life will be given to both. Since there is evil in this world, there must be a resistance, and any meaningful and effective resistance must have a true and compelling vision of the ‘good’ — what we are fighting for.

But if we’re honest, doing good is often a thankless, wearying task.

Indeed, the most important acts of love are done in the privacy of our own homes, with no applause or praise, but simply for the good of those we care for.

Often the right thing to do is also the hardest. Telling the truth, for example, is harder than ‘letting it go to keep the peace’. Doing good comes with a cost and, over time, we can grow weary.

Those of us who supported the Convoy know the euphoric feeling of standing on bridges as our heroes rolled through, heading to Ottawa to defend the truth and stand up for their neighbours.

And we know the feeling of despair when those who had sworn to protect the rights of citizens and uphold the law, trampled us and locked us up as we peacefully stood our ground.

The temptation we face in the wake of such injustice is despair, a weariness of soul that robs us of our strength to do good.

However, life is a marathon, not a sprint. If we are going to commit to doing good as we ought, we need strength to endure.

The outpouring of our lives for the good of others cannot continue indefinitely if we ourselves do not receive sustaining grace. Ultimately, we need strength from outside of us. The enormity of our task, as noble as it is, requires us to depend on others. We cannot do it alone.

First, we must acknowledge our need for Christ. No mere mortal can supply all that we need, and He alone can provide limitless strength to the weary.

Second, we need to surround ourselves with healthy community. There’s a reason tyrants always attempt to isolate and atomize citizens: isolated individuals soon wither, and lose all moral will to resist. We were created to live in community, and we have a built-in need for each other. We need encouragement to continue the fight, to do good in the face of evil, to not despair when battles are lost, and to stay in the war.

So find your people. Connect with like-minded neighbours. Resist the temptation to be a lone ranger.

And hey, caffeine goes a long way in strengthening the weary too.

So pour yourself a hot cup of freedom fuel, seek strength from the One who supplies it in abundance, and don’t fight alone.

This is how we will find sustained strength to keep doing good.

With you,

Alex
